Is Cellfina™ the Holy Grail of Cellulite Treatments?

Cellulite can affect up to 90% of women.

Cellulite can affect up to 90% of women.

Cellfina™  is a new, minimally invasive treatment for cellulite, and it was recently cleared by the  Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It is intended for long-term improvement in the appearance of cellulite in the buttocks and thighs of women. Treatment benefits have lasted as long as 2 years with a single, in-office treatment.

What is cellulite?

Cellulite is formed by connective tissue bands that form throughout the fat in the thighs and buttocks.  These bands are tight, and they create the puckering that is seen on the skin of up to 90% of women.  To many women’s dismay, cellulite is resistant to diet and exercise.  In addition, liposuction does not improve cellulite, and , in some cases, it can actually worsen cellulite.

How does Cellfina™ work?

There have been many treatments that, in the past, have aimed at improving cellulite. Cellfina™ is unique in that, two years after a single treatment,  up to 90% of women continue to be happy with the result. The Cellfina™ treatment uses a proprietary technology that draws the tissue into a small, hand-held device. A needle is then use to fully release the tethered bands.  Once the bands are released, the tissue smooths itself out in three to four days.

What does the procedure involve?

The procedure itself takes less than an hour. It is performed under local anesthesia and patients can watch a movie, answer emails, or read during the procedure. Most patients can return to work the very next day. There is minimal downtime and the patients experience minimal discomfort, soreness and bruising.

Who is a candidate?

Any woman who has dimpled cellulite in the buttocks and thighs is a candidate for Cellfina™.  Wavy cellulite does not respond to Cellfina™ and there are no real long-term solutions for wavy cellulite. However, Cellfina™ offers new hope for the common indentations that dimpled cellulite leaves on the thighs and buttocks of women.

Summer is a time when bathing suits and shorts are common. Women who have tried creams, rollers, and even laser liposuction without success now have a new, long-term solution for their dimpled cellulite with Cellfina™.
